NACS 2006: Post-Show wrap up.

The 2006 NACS Tradeshow has come and gone. A theme resonating through out the show was ENERGY either in a drink or as a supplement. Boyd Coffee Company sent our food scientists, Ron Steel and Tom Kiesling, out scouting the floor for notable products and trends. Their findings included:

“One of the major themes of the NACS Show was still the high energy boost the consumer can get from a beverage, candy, gum, or other food. Quite a few of these items were classified as “Supplements” rather than food because of some of the claims on the labeling—this was usually accompanied by the statement that the claims had not been approved by the Food & Drug Administration.”

Another theme, healthy, good for you included TEA.

“Several suppliers were showing fresh brewed teas which still seems to be a trend. Most of these were flavored teas with the fruit flavored teas being the most popular (passion fruit, peach, raspberry, green apple, etc) but most had little tea flavor and more fruit flavor. Green tea still seems to be a popular “Healthy” theme and several of the green tea beverages were flavored. Green tea was also used as an ingredient in some of the foods being shown at NACS adding emphasis to the use of green tea as a ‘Good for You’ ingredient.”

Boyd Coffee Company was a pioneer in developing Hi Rev® coffees, cappuccino and frozen beverages and Island Mist Iced Tea. We also continue to be an innovator introducing last summer Green Tea Passion Fruit Freezer.
